I accidentally wrote a novel.

It started with three words from someone I had loved when I was seventeen:

“I loved you.”

The only problem was that he said them thirty-three years late.

I thought I knew exactly what had happened all those years ago. It turns out memory is a terrible archivist — and sometimes the story you’ve lived with for decades isn’t quite the story that happened.
